Obtaining Gravel from State Resources
Some communities may be able to purchase gravel and sand from the state.
The state does not donate gravel and sand except on a limited basis for specific state infrastructure projects (airstrips, roads).
Material sites on state-owned land
Gravel and sand purchased from the state are managed through the Alaska Department of Natural Resources (Division of Mining, Land & Water).
Contact ADNR’s Public Information Center for assistance with purchasing gravel and sand on state land.
You must submit an application, a reclamation plan, and an environmental risk questionnaire. These documents are available in the “Useful Links” section.
The Alaska Department of Transportation may have a developed/permitted material site near your project. (See the “Useful Links” section for more information.)
